Philosophy of the MCYO

The primary goal of the MCYO is to help provide the link between the youth of the Minneapolis area and their parish through academic as well as athletic activities. We believe our program must be an extension of the Catholic classroom where children are taught the values of sportsmanship and the meaning of integrity through team and individual events.

In addition, our program provides men and women within the parish, an opportunity to work closely with the children in the capacity of coaching, managing, supervising and many of the other needed areas in order to make a youth program not just exist, but excel.

Basic Christian principles and a code of conduct which all or our coaches, participants and spectators must abideby, helps to make ours a program that is both unique and positive. The ideas of fairness, honesty, teamwork and respect are not just buzz words in competitive activities in the MCYO program - they are the foundation upon which this youth organization was built and the main reason MCYO has been successful and in existence for many years.

Twice a year we gather together as a Catholic community to give thanks for all the blessings received at the communion mass and awards breakfast held at the church of Ascension. It is here that we celebrate the many ways we truly are a family.

It is our hope that all who are part of the MCYO will take with them the knowledge that they have been part of something special, because they are special.
