High School League

BASEBALL PLAYING RULES
All Leagues will be governed by the Minnesota State High School Rules (NFSHS) with the following clarifications:
  • Varsity Pitching Distance: 60 feet 6 inches – Cub Pitching Distance: 50 feet.
  • Varsity Baseline: 90 feet – Cub Baseline 75 feet.
  • NO METAL SPIKES MAY BE WORN.
  • Game Ball will be: Wilson, Rawlings or Diamond Babe Ruth ball (or better), or an MCYO approved ball.
  • Baseball bats: Varsity bats must not have a length/ounce ratio greater than five (5). Cub bats must be Little League or MCYO approved.
  • Batters, base runners, catchers and (base coaches who are under the age of 18 years) must wear properly fitted approved protective helmet.
  • Coaches, players or spectators may not be present directly behind the backstop.
  • Teams must be ready to play within 10 minutes of scheduled time. Each team must start with 9 players and can finish with 8 players.
  • Varsity games will be scheduled for 2 hours. No new inning will begin after 1:45 minutes into the game. The team behind must have 4 turns at bat.
  • Cub games will be scheduled for 1:45 minutes. No new inning will begin after 1:30 minutes into the game. The team behind must have 4 turns at bat.
  • Cub League: No stealing. Runners may not leave the base until the ball crosses home plate (runners may be called out for doing so). Runners may advance on a “passed ball”, defined as a ball that crosses an imaginary line behind the catcher that extending from bench to bench. Interpretation is subject to the umpires discretion.
  • UNLIMITED RE-ENTRY RULE (ALL PLAYERS): Players may re-enter a game as many times as a coach determines. Players MUST REMAIN IN THE SAME SPOT IN THE BATTING ORDER. They may play any defensive position in the field including pitcher. The High School pitching restriction applies. Umpires and score keepers must be notified of any changes. THIS RULE SHOULD BE USED FOR PLAYER PARTICIPATION, NOT AS A TOOL FOR COACHES.
  • Any protests must be made at the site and according to the MCYO protest format. The game must be continued. Coaches who pull their teams off the field will automatically forfeit their right to protest and could compromise the rest of their season.
ALL PLAYERS MUST HUSTLE ON AND OFF THE FIELD SO MAXIMUM TIME CAN BE USED TO PLAY AS MANY INNINGS AS POSSIBLE.
